WRAP: A Personal Story

How WRAP Has Helped Me Stay “Cool Under Pressure”

I have been facilitating WRAP classes for quite some time now and see the benefits in others’ lives over and over again. Applying the principles of WRAP has helped me personally to stay on top of stressors and triggers that could cause more trouble. The whole concept of monitoring, reducing and eliminating signs of difficulty is a great way of taking control of my life and managing the difficult times. The WRAP puts in a concise package all the tools and strategies to live life without any surprises. Having completed a WRAP and distributing the crisis plan to my supporters gives me confidence that there is a plan of action that will help me.

This confidence gives me hope that a crisis will be managed more effectively and in a way that I have predetermined. I haven’t had any hospitalizations or major psychiatric problems since having a WRAP, and I am confident that I can handle anything that comes my way. I was not as confident prior to having the action plan. It gives me assurance and hope that any symptoms that emerge will be dealt with long before they try to deal me out. A couple of my wellness tools are to snuggle with my honey girl (my wife) and go for long walks in the sunshine.

These simple tools were being used for years, but having a WRAP has helped me to organize them and others and recognize how to mold them into a daily maintenance plan that I can refer to as a guide to live well. My support team is not left in the dark; if a crisis were to arise, they have copies of my directives that will ensure my safety and treatment. I recommend to everyone, even those who have no psychiatric challenges, to complete a WRAP and have the empowerment and “cool under pressure” that it gives me.
